Karate is not about physical strength, breaking boards or learning to beat people up and is far more than a fighting Art. It certainly is about self protection and personal security but can also be a lifelong journey of development and fulfillment. It teaches how not to be at risk and how a "light weight" can use another's "bulk" to their advantage. Children benefit from discipline, improved concentration and co-ordination. It gives them confidence to think for themselves to stand out and speak out. It is a demanding sport which develops fitness, strength, flexibility and suppleness, stamina, speed and sharp reactions. Karate teaches values of character, justice, respect, control and excellence. It trains the body and the mind.
