Established in January 2000 by Gearóid Quinn, St. Vincents & St. Josephs Shotokan Karate Club began training at St. Vincents G.A.A. (C.L.G. Naomh Uinsionn). Other experienced instructors joined and the club expanded to St. Josephs Primary School (Joeys), Fairview, in September 2001. The club has instructors graded to Yondan (4th Dan) Black Belt level.

With a strong focus on traditional Shotokan, students have graded to black belt level and had competition success as SKIF-Ireland National Champions. The clubs attract many guests and foreign visitors and regularly host senior Karate instructors, including Kanazawa Kancho. Normal training is at St. Josephs, with courses, seminars & gradings held at St. Vincents.

Website Development

The club website has formed an important part of developing the club. As more people have access to the internet having a regualrly updated website has become a good advertisment to show potential new member what the club is all about. For the club members, the website provides a good resource for information on the SKI grading syllabus and photos of club activities.

The first version of the club website was a basic site consisting of ten or so pages with a blue and white theme following the colours of the St. Vincents G.A.A. and St. Josephs Primary School.

The second version of the website benefited from the artistic talents on one of the club members, Philip Elliot, who designed a new club logo and a number of graphics which were used in the website and also in the posters and leaflets advertising the club in the Fairview area.
